Why hotel reviews matter so much

Travellers compare hotels in a few seconds on Google Maps. They look at the star rating, the number of reviews and, most of all, how recent those reviews are. A property with hundreds of reviews from last year can look stale next to a smaller hotel with a steady stream of comments from this month.

The problem is rarely that guests are unhappy. Most guests simply forget. They check out, head to the airport and the moment passes. A QR code placed exactly where the stay ends gives them an easy way to share their experience while it is still fresh.

Give every team member their own code

A single QR code at reception works, but it hides who actually made the stay special. With Review Scoreboard every person gets a personal code and short link. When a guest scans it, the visit is credited to that teammate.

  • Front desk: a small card handed over with the bill at checkout.
  • Housekeeping: a note card left on the pillow on the final morning.
  • Concierge and porters: a QR on the back of a name badge.
  • Restaurant and bar: a code printed on the bill folder.

Make the review itself effortless

When a guest scans, they see a short friendly page with your hotel name and the first name of the person who helped them. They tap a star rating, then choose from a few suggested review drafts they can edit freely in their own words. One tap copies the text and opens your Google review page, ready to paste.

Every guest can always post a public Google review, whatever rating they choose. If someone had a disappointing stay, they also get the option to send a private note to the manager, while the public review link stays visible on the same screen. That keeps you within Google's rules and helps you fix problems fast.

Stay on the right side of Google's policies

Google does not allow businesses to offer guests discounts, free nights or gifts in exchange for reviews, and it does not allow filtering out unhappy guests. Ask every guest, never pay for reviews and never write reviews on behalf of guests. Review Scoreboard is built around that approach: the guest writes and posts the review themselves.

Recognising your own team for great service is a different thing. You can celebrate the staff member who looked after the most guests, as long as the guest is never offered anything. Read more in our guide to running an employee review leaderboard.

Compare every property in one place

Groups with several properties can add each hotel as a location with its own Google review link. The dashboard shows scans and review taps per property and per person, so you can see which teams are building momentum and share what works. For more ideas, see how to get more Google reviews.

Common questions

Where should a hotel display its review QR code?

Front desk cards, key card sleeves, the checkout receipt and staff name badges work best, because guests see them at natural moments in their stay.

Can housekeeping staff have their own code?

Yes. Any team member can have a personal code, so the people guests rarely see by name still get credit for the stays they made better.

Ready to give every teammate their own QR code?

Review Scoreboard is free to use. Set up your first location in a few minutes.
